The Best Louisville Theaters

Welcome to the Gateway of the South! One of the best ways you can appreciate the unique history and culture of The River City is by exploring the arts of the town. Louisville has many different theaters that have their own performances and historical tours. At the very least, you can catch a movie at some of the most popular movie theaters in town.

We'll help point you to the many fun and interesting theaters so you can have a fun time at the cinema.


Louisville Palace Theatre


Address: 625 S 4th St, Louisville, KY

Built in 1928, The Louisville Palace is one of the most elegant and classy venues you'll find in the downtown area. While the decor is fit for a king, there's no dress requirement or age limit for the shows here. Most people will recommend reserving center rows G-K for the best seats in the house.

You'll be able to watch everything from comedy shows to country music concerts, and you can enter any venue usually an hour before showtime. It's an unforgettable theatrical experience.

  • Concessions are available—our favorite thing to buy is the soft pretzel!
  • Only small purses are allowed (smaller than 12"x6"x12").

The Brown Theatre


Address: 315 W Broadway, Louisville, KY

One of the oldest theaters in town, The Brown Theater offers a fresh yet antique venue for all kinds of live music performances. From orchestral performances of classic John Williams scores to tributes to Americana, The Brown Theatre is a great place to head for a show.

  • SCENE at the Center is the lounge where drinks and limited snacks are served.
  • Dress depending on the entertainment you are planning to see. Concert viewings should be more proper attire, plays can be casual dress, etc.

Apex Entertainment


Address: 1250 Bardstown Rd, Louisville, KY

For guests just wanting a normal movie experience, Apex Entertainment has a movie theater in the suburbs surrounding Louisville. The Baxter Avenue Theater shows modern movies, but holds classic movie days every month. You can even watch theater streams from places throughout the world.

  • 4Bar is a great place to grab a drink before or after the show.

Georgetown Drive In


Address: 8200 IN-64, Georgetown, IN

Come watch movies in the comfort of your own vehicle. The Georgetown Drive In is a little ways out of town, but offers a one-of-a-kind movie watching experience near Louisville. Take a look at the movies that are on offer on their site.

  • You can only use cash as payment here.
  • Concession stands offer hot dogs, chili dogs, burgers, pretzels, nachos, etc.
  • Outside snacks are allowed, though not encouraged.

Clarksville Little Theatre


Address: 301 E Montgomery Ave, Clarksville, IN

The beautiful, quaint Clarksville Little Theater is a wonderful place to catch a show. There's usually one main theatrical production going on at a time, so if the show running during your trip sounds interesting to you be sure to grab tickets early.
