Joe Bowen inherited a portion of the family farm in Bowen, Kentucky (yes namesaked for his ancestors). He got the old tobacco barn that was built over 100 years ago and then started taking down old barns in other peoples farms in exchange for the wood he salvaged. He expanded his quest to taking down old general stores and apothecaries. The barn got fat with wood, fireplaces, doors, cabinets, and antiques.
A diamond in the rough! Joe and Linda took us in like family! Forget about the cozy farm house. Forget about waking up to the smell of bacon, eggs, and biscuits. Forget about the extensive knowledge of every trail, arch, and natural structure in the Daniel Boone National Forest. Joe Bowen is a legend, and his stories will captivate you and make you forget why you were visiting in the first place! Thank you Linda and Joe...we will be back! -William R.
