The President's House B&B

This Italianate home was built in 1847 by Levi J. Hampton, an early settler in the Big Sandy Valley and is listed on the Kentucky register of Historical Homes.

The relaxed atmosphere encourages guests to lounge on the front porch, under the wisteria vine-covered arbor, or stroll by the goldfish pond. The small forest behind the house is a great place for bird-watching and spotting wild-life.

Guests use our high-speed, wireless internet connection to keep up with e-mails and business concerns.  Our home-like atmosphere includes access to a guest refrigerator stocked with favorite beverages and snacks, combining the charm of the past with the needs of modern living. The Presidents' House is an excellent choice for the vacationer, weekender, or business traveler. All rooms have cable television, en suite bathrooms, and queen-size beds. Local airport shuttle service is available upon request.

Your days at The Presidents' House start with your first cup of coffee, great conversation and laughter. A full breakfast is served in the dining room on weekends and a deluxe continental on weekdays. Special dietary needs are accommodated with advanced notice.

Located in the mid-Ohio River valley, minutes drive from Ashland, Kentucky, Ironton, Ohio, and Huntington, West Virginia, our home is especially convenient for visitors to Marshall University, Ohio University Southern Campus events, and the Paramount Theater.

The Roosevelt Room featuring
a four poster bed, working fireplace, and plum Victorian paper offers guests a romantic atmosphere reminiscent of the Roosevelts of Long Island and Hyde Park. The large bathing room features an over-sized whirlpool tub with shower. Nightly rate is $115.    

The Carter Room with its cheery blue and yellow decor furnished with a queen size ivory iron bed and love seat is like stepping back into an old Georgian country bedroom. The exquisite white fireplace adds to the charm of this comfortable setting. Enjoy the peanuts-in-shell and memories of our most recent Nobel Prize-winning President. The private bath has a shower and tub. Nightly rate is $85.

The Kennedy Room, with deep, lavish decor and New England ambiance is rounded out by original dark oak moldings and handsome fireplace. The queen-size bed and gentleman's chest is complemented by the priceless Kennedy collection featuring mementos of the beloved President's life and tragic death. Over twenty original pieces of memorabilia can be found in this exceptionally warm and inviting room. Nightly rate is $85.    

The Jefferson Retreat is located in the downstairs of our guest house. The building is just steps from the main house and was once antebellum servant quarters. The convenience of the first floor and separate outside entrance is a favorite for guests-on-the-go. Colonial accents and memorabilia are reminiscent of Jefferson's era and his love for horticulture and "all things French." Nightly rate is $90.  

The Lincoln Loft is located in the upstairs of our guest house. The queen-size handmade Appalachian willow bed, a hundred-year-old family quilt, and prized Lincoln-era pictures combine for a romantic hideaway, the favorite choice of honeymooners and couples celebrating their anniversary. Relax in the two-person corner whirlpool in the spacious bathing room. Nightly rate is $115.    

The formal Parlor houses both a studio-size Sohmer piano and full-pedal board Wurlitzer organ in addition to a fine display of Presidential memorabilia dating back to the administration of President George Washington. The oldest autographs in The Presidents' House are found here, along with fascinating mementos of more recent presidents.

Above rates are based on double occupancy, a $15 extra for each additional person.  

All of our rooms have cable TV and all rooms in the main house have fireplaces.

We do not charge your room at the time of reservation. We hold the reservation with a valid credit card; you pay upon arrival.

In the case of group reservations, a deposit may be required.

Cancellations accepted with five day notice of weekday reservations: seven day notice on weekends and holidays.

Cancellations with less than the above times required will be charged the full amount but a gift certificate will be issued toward future reservations.

Business travelers' discounts available.

Check-in 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

No pets allowed.

We have a strict no-smoking policy anywhere INSIDE these historic buildings ($300 cleaning charge). An area is provided for smokers outside the buildings.
